Down Syndrome - Dr Joanna Howe

Sign the petition to save babies with down syndrome

In Australia 9 out of 10 babies with Down syndrome are aborted and 50% of parents are pressured to abort after receiving a Down Syndrome diagnosis.

This is despite the fact that not only do people with Down Syndrome report having a very high level of satisfaction with their lives, but their siblings feel they are better people for having a family member with Down syndrome.

In a country where it is illegal to discriminate on the basis of disability, why do we systematically discriminate and annihilate people with Down Syndrome in-utero?

I believe in an Australia where every human person is valued and their human rights upheld, irrespective of race, gender, age, stage of development, location, or disability. There is no reason to intentionally kill another person for simply existing.

Sign my petition to end the killing of Australians with Down Syndrome.

We, the undersigned, urgently call on all state and federal governments to pass laws which make it illegal to abort a child, or leave a child without medical assistance after a failed abortion, because of a diagnosis of Down Syndrome. This is a disgusting human rights abuse and we believe in an Australia where every person is valued and supported irrespective of disability. Our Australian community is richer for its diversity and by eliminating 9 out of 10 children with Down syndrome we are robbing our country of its future.
