Queensland Premier Steven Miles is the architect of abortion up to birth in Queensland. As Health Minister in 2018 when this new law was introduced, he told the parliament it would not result in more late-term abortions.
This is a lie. In just three years, the raw number of Queensland babies killed through late-term abortions has doubled.
Read the facts
In 2018, before the Termination of Pregnancy Bill 2018 was passed, there were 152 late-term abortions in Queensland.
In 2021, the year we have the most up-to-date data for, there were 304 babies killed through late-term abortion.
The reason late-term abortion is so horrific is because it kills a gestationally-viable baby who could survive if induced alive. A 2023 study of 29 babies born at 22 weeks found that with active intervention at birth these babies had a survival rate of 82.8%.
Data from Victoria and South Australia demonstrates that many of these babies killed at a late stage are perfectly healthy and do not have a condition that is incompatible with life.
Sign my open letter to Premier Steven Miles demanding he launch an inquiry into the doubling of late-term abortions in Queensland since the passage of his abortion up to birth law in 2018.
