Stop the radical Greens plan for killing babies before and after birth

The Greens have a radical twofold plan to roll out enforced and unlimited abortion up to birth across Australia and to kill newborns who survive their abortion.

The Greens want to stop a federal bill that would introduce protection for survivors of abortion

Greens Senator Larissa Waters has announced her intention to introduce a motion in the federal Senate on November 26 that will remove the Human Rights (Children Born Alive Protection) Bill from the parliament’s notice paper. This means the Bill will not be able to be debated or proceed to a vote. Read more

This Bill is a vitally important piece of legislation that, if passed, will give a right to equal treatment and medically appropriate care to newborns who survive their abortion. Every week, at least one child is born alive and left to die in an Australian state without a legislated right to care.

Although NSW and South Australia have an equal treatment provision in their abortion law to protect babies who survive their abortion, most other states and territories do not. This is why a federal law, introduced via the external affairs power in the Constitution that allows the Commonwealth government to enact laws that bring into effect an international obligation, must be urgently passed.

The Greens want to introduce a constitutional right to abortion

In Victoria, the Greens have introduced a Bill to constitutionalise abortion up to birth and on demand. Read more

Abortion up to birth is already the law in Victoria but if it is constitutionalised, it will make it almost impossible to change this law in the future.

The Greens want to force all health workers and hospitals to perform abortion up to birth

The Greens plan to provide $1bn taxpayer funds to public hospitals on the proviso that they perform a full suite of abortion options to women. Read more

This plan would force the closure of faith-based hospitals and force doctors, nurses and midwives who do not want to perform abortions to stop being health workers.

We, the undersigned, urgently call on all MPs to vote against the radical abortion plans of the Greens to leave newborns to die if they survive their abortion, constitutionalise abortion up to birth and to force health care workers and hospitals to be involved in unlimited and extreme abortion. This radical Greens plan is not in the best interests of women, children, health workers, the health system and Australia and must be urgently stopped.
